I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with over a decades experience working in private practice and almost twenty years experience working as a therapist.
I have over twelve years experience working within a mental health setting. Whilst training I worked as a psychotherapist within the NHS. I have facilitated groups for depression, anxiety and anger management.
Prior to training as a therapist, my long term working background has been within the charitable sector.
WHY ATTEND COUNSELLING/PSYCHOTHERAPY - HOW CAN IT HELP AND WHAT BENEFITS MIGHT YOU EXPECT?
I have experience working within a broad range of areas. Sometimes people seek counselling with specific problems they wish to address, other with a more general sense of low self confidence, depression, generalised anxiety, stress or relationship issues, family issues or communication difficulties. When we are busy or feeling a little overwhelmed it can be difficult to take the time to prioritise ourselves and take time to focus on our mental health, which is as equally important as our physical health.
I offer both short term and long term counselling for individuals and couples seeking support within a confidential, safe, non-judgemental space. Offering an opportunity for you to explore and develop a greater understanding of difficulties you may be experiencing and any underlying issues which might be having an impact on your life today and how to make positive changes in your life.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY?
There are various definitions to describe counselling and psychotherapy, with many similarities between the two. To use a broad description, often counselling is described as focusing more on immediate issues in the here and now and psychotherapy working at a deeper and often longer term level, this is also reflected in the extended length of training to be a psychotherapist. I am qualified as both a counsellor and psychotherapist and therefore I have the flexibility in approach to match an individual clients needs.
